The 7,500 seat Miami Marine Stadium was built in 1963 as the first stadium for powerboat racing in the USA. It was also used for concerts, in 1972 Richard Nixon and Sammy Davis Jr. hugged on its stage. Designed by then 28-year-old Hilario Candela, who just immigrated from Cuba, the stadium with its cantilevered folded-plate roof shows Googie elements and represents a true Modernist treasure. Yet it resides abandoned since it was hit by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Click here to help save it.
